PRISCILLA PIGLET FROM EDGAR’S MISSION

Pam Ahern writes:

Despite the cold chills on Sunday at the Nunawading Art and Craft Market, little Priscilla, “Queen of the Barn” piglet managed to bring smiles to one and all as she trotted her way into their hearts. As part of their state-wide campaign of kindness, Priscilla spearheaded the Edgar’s Mission farm sanctuary team as her human companions handed out leaflets and raised awareness about the treatment of Priscilla’s not so lucky cousins.

“A pig came into my life five years ago and changed it forever” explained the sanctuary’s founder, Pam Ahern. “We named him Edgar Alan Pig, and it was through taking him for walks in the park that I realised the best ambassadors for changing the way we view farm animals are the animals themselves.”

Today Edgar’s Mission farm sanctuary which is located in the tiny hamlet of Willowmavin, just outside of Kilmore, is home to over 100 rescued animals including three stars of the hit movie Charlotte’s Web, Alice Pig, Lily Pig, and Daisy Pig.

“People tend to think of farm animals as different from our much loved pets. Yet in their capacity to suffer, they are no different. Most people are not even aware that farm animals do not receive the full protection of our animal welfare legislation. As such, they can be subject to acts of cruelty that we would never find acceptable for the animals that share our hearts and homes. Priscilla is a great reminder that their lives matter too and that we have the power to change their world for the better each time we shop!”
