PAMPLONA: BLOOD, TORTURE AND DEATH

P05-66072

200 campaigners – to represent 200 bulls killed –  from Spain and beyond, with banderillas stuck in their backs, protested against the Sanfermines (Bull Run) at the doors of Pamplona City Hall.

This is the 8th consecutive year that PETA and AnimaNaturalis have met in the Navarre capital to make this symbolic protest “in defence of  animals”, and to appeal for “the abolition of bullfighting.”

Before each “encierro”, as the runs are described in Pamplona, the bulls are tormented with electric prods and pointed spears.

The director of AnimaNaturalis España, Jonathan Torralba, maintains that the anti-bullfight movement is growing. The Partido Antitaurino Contra el Maltrato Animal (PACMA) – Anti-Bullfight Party –  is the extra-parlamentary force third-most voted for in Spain”.

On their site are listed the over 30 media reports in Spain, including TV and the local press, together with some 10 reports overseas. These  include Uruguay – which has no bullfighting – and Venezuela, which does, but where there is much opposition, excellent campaigning and the capital, Caracas, is the first anti-corrida city in the world.
