As this is the height of the bullfighting season in the south west of France,  the excellent group CRAC – Comité Radicalement Anti-Corrida – has organised protests to take place in – so far – the following towns:

Méjanes in the Camargue – Saint-Vincent de Tyrosse in Aquitaine – Montblanc on the Côte d’Azur – Beaucaire in Languedoc-Roussillon – Bayonne, near Biarritz.

For those holidaying in the beautiful south west, please note that Biarritz has no bullring – but they do have shops selling bullfight souvenirs.

We single out the events in the town of Châteaurenard near Avignon.

They are organising a Portuguese-style bullfight – ‘sans mise à mort’ –  ‘not to the death’ –  after his torment, the bull is killed behind the scenes.

As if Spanish and Portuguese bullfights were not enough, the town is hosting, for the first time in France, a  Mexican one.

The matadors will appear in Mexican dress and Mariachis will provide the musical entertainment.
