David Martin is a Labour Member of the European Parliament, one of the six MEPs representing Scotland in Brussels and Strasbourg.

He is Vice-President of One Kind, the Scottish animal advocacy group. www.onekind.org

He is currently Vice President of the European Parliamentary Intergroup for Animals, a post previously held by Caroline Lucas MP when she was an MEP.

David took part in the launch of the Group’s pledge for the 2014 European Elections. The aim of the pledge is for EU political groups and individual candidates to ‘sign up’ to including animal welfare related issues in their political programmes.

To coincide with the debate, a new website was launched that brings together all the information about the elections and the animal welfare issues at stake.

It can be found at http://www.voteforanimals.eu/

On December 5 in Edinburgh, the Lord Houghton Award for Services to Animal Welfare was awarded to David Martin MEP in recognition of decades of commitment and practical work to improve the lot of animals in the UK, Europe and beyond.

Please see www.onekind.org for a report on this event and news of the excellent work done by One Kind – which includes campaigning on religious slaughter, the buying of exotic animals for pets and snaring wildlife.
