The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in India has accepted submissions from our associate Vasanthi Kumar of STRAW in New Delhi, so lesson plans relating to empathy towards animals will appear in their manuals.
Vasanthi has received letters confirming that her chapter Empathy Towards Animals in Captivity has been included in the Teacher’s Manual on Life Skills for Classes IX and X.
A chapter on Dog Bites and How to Avoid them has been included in their Revised School Health Manual.
These manuals will be circulated to about 10,000+ schools that are affiliated to CBSE, all over India.

STRAW was also invited to run a humane education workshop for some 150 students – in the age group of 7 to 14 – who were attending a residential summer camp in New Delhi.

Since the theme of this camp was service, we did a programme on the need to help animals. This was very successful.
