This is to bring to your kind notice that two babies of a wild cat have been rescued and were sent to our shelter house by the Forest Department.

Ashima and jungle kitten

According to the Department, these babies were found and reported by some women while working in the fields of the village Gondhi Salai of Hapur.

Though they were thought to be leopards – much persecuted currently in parts of India –  they are in fact kittens of the jungle cat Felis chaus – largest of the remaining species of wild cat and very common in India. They are somewhat larger than a domestic cat and as adults, resemble lynxes.

They have now been transferred to Wildlife SOS.   www.wildlifesos.org
