Four members of QCA joined the animal protection contingent of the TUC-organised lobby of the government at their conference in Manchester on October 2. Some 35,000 trades unionists were protesting against the cuts to jobs and pensions.

Captive Animals’ Protection Society invited animal campaigners to take this high profile opportunity to protest against government inaction on the vote by the Commons to ban the use of wild animals in circuses. Campaigners to maintain the ban on hunting and those opposed to the proposed slaughter of badgers in England also joined the march, which moved slowly through the centre of Manchester, ending at the MEN arena where the conference was being held.
