It was a cacophony of color that spawned from the Exhibition Buildings to Federation Square on Sunday as several thousand people came together to celebrate cultural diversity and religious freedom in Victoria’s Walk for Harmony. And there, braving the chilly winds was Kilmore’s own Edgar’s Mission Farm Sanctuary as they proudly marched under their “Our mission is kindness” banner.
“At Edgar’s Mission, ours is a culture of kindness that transcends ethnicity and religions and embraces all species”, said the sanctuary’s founder Pam Ahern. “In a society that seeks to live harmoniously with all surely it’s time we embraced animals with our compassion and kindness as well.”
Edgar’s Mission Farm Sanctuary – which QCA has supported – is situated just west of Kilmore, in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range at Willowmavin. They are called home by over 150 rescued farmed animals while their outreach centre aims to expand the public’s circle of compassion to include all animals.
While the march was led by Premier John Brumby, it was the tiny orphan baby goat named Ryan, an ambassador for all animals, who captured people’s attention. Warming hearts and melting frowns, there was no doubt this little kid certainly won the people’s choice on the day.
